Summary:

This in-person educational workshop is designed to strengthen funeral directors’ arrangement conference skills through ethics-focused communication while ensuring compliance with Ohio preneed statutes, the FTC Funeral Rule, and professional standards. Beginning with the arrangement conference—the most critical interaction between funeral professionals and the families they serve—the program integrates practical communication strategies with Ohio-specific preneed ethics education grounded in law, transparency, and consumer protection.

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate active listening techniques during arrangement conferences
  • Apply hospitality principles that support ethical family care
  • Organize and conduct arrangement conferences with professionalism and clarity
  • Understand how body language and nonverbal communication influence perception and trust
  • Explain the legal importance of proper General Price List (GPL) presentation
  • Use clear, ethical funeral director language families can understand
  • Understand Ohio preneed legal requirements and ethical obligations
  • Differentiate ethical, consumer-centered language from sales-driven communication and behavior
  • Recognize and ethically serve vulnerable populations
  • Apply ethical standards and Ohio statutes in preneed conversations
