Robert "Gung" Dillon
Grandfather of Robert J. Dillon, managing funeral director and embalmer of the Lane Family Funeral Home
OFDA has received word that Robert "Gung" Dillon passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on Monday morning October 14, 2013, in the Emergency Room in the Sharon Regional Health System. He was 76 years old.
He was born in Sharon on Oct. 20, 1936, the son of the late Fred I. and Mary Ellen (Griffin) Dillon. Gung was a 1954 graduate of Sharon High School and soon after married his sweetheart Ruth Butler on April 23, 1956, and began their more than 57-year journey together.
Bob worked for the former Valley Mould and Iron, Inc. in Hubbard beginning first in the mail room and working his way to become a bookkeeper and then on to manager in the accounting department before his retirement with more than 30 years of service. He was secretary of V.M.I. retirees group and following his retirement he then drove school buses for the Brookfield Local School District for 10 years.
Bob and Ruth traveled together in their motor home to many destinations across the United States, and Canada. They had also taken a tour of Europe. When at hom,e he had been active in several area golf leagues, and had held various positions in bowling leagues at Thorton Hall and Bellwick Lanes.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth; two sons Robert H. Dillon and Gary A. Dillon all of Brookfield; three grandsons Robert J. Dillon, Gary E. Dillon and Patrick M. Dillon; granddaughter Rachel N. Dillon; sister-in-law Denise Dillon; five nieces Jodi (Jody) Sucharski, Janell Dresel, Paula Dillon, Amy (Frank) Gargiulo, and Jodonna (Gary Sabourin) Handle; nephew Roy Handle; and by his five great-nieces ZoeÍ´i , Kayla, and Haylie Sucharski and Ava and Olivia Gargiulo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings Fred K. Dillon, Gloria D. Dresel, and Eugene P. Dillon.
Friends may call on Friday evening Oct. 18, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Madasz Chapel of Lane Funeral Homes at 6923 Warren-Sharon Road in Brookfield, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning at the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Zanni officiating. Burial will follow at the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
