Ohio Sales Tax Holiday Information

CORRECTION TO THIS MORNING'S DIGITAL DIRECTOR

Ohio’s sales tax holiday runs from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9. The event has reverted to a traditional, 3-day back-to-school format:

Clothing: Exempt up to $75 per item

School Supplies & Instructional Materials: Exempt up to $20 per item

Expanded Holiday Cancelled
Unlike the extended tax-free periods in 2024 and 2025 (which lasted up to two weeks and covered items up to $500), this year’s holiday does not include broad items like electronics, appliances, or business equipment. The expansion was rolled back by state lawmakers to redirect funds toward property tax relief.

Qualifying & Non-Qualifying Items
Shoppers can make multiple eligible item purchases tax-free as long as the price of each individual item meets the cap limit.

Examples of Qualifying Clothing: Pants, shirts, dresses, coats, shoes, underwear, and backpacks.

Examples of Qualifying Supplies: Notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, calculators, and rulers.

Items Excluded: Clothing over $75, supplies over $20, restaurant food, motor vehicles, alcohol, and tobacco.
