Obituary for Harold J. Vroman

Harold J. Vroman, age 89 of Walbridge, OH, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at home with his wife, Sandy, by his side. He was born May 15, 1934, to Harold A. and Lottie (Christiansen) Vroman. A proud graduate of Lake High School where he participated in basketball, baseball and track, Harold went on to raise a family in Genoa and was involved in coaching many of his children's sporting events. While raising his family, he often worked multiple jobs to assure that his family was well-provided for. He was a man of many talents and could fix anything. Harold had a tremendous intellect and easily carried conversations with anyone. He was well-read in a variety of subjects.
In addition to driving the migrant school bus for Genoa Schools, Harold worked for 41 years as a Car Inspector for CSX Railroad before retiring in 1994. He met the love of his life, Sandra, in 1980 and they were married on July 10, 1987. Harold and Sandy traveled the United States extensively in the summers and frequented almost every state. Most recently, they enjoyed several trips to Hawaii with their son and daughter-in-law, Mick and Bethany.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sandra (Shumaker) Vroman; daughter, Jane (Robert) Skilliter Ill; son, Timothy Vroman; stepsons, Mick (Bethany) and Mark (Dr. Jerome Webster) Merz; sister, Sally (Joe) Lovell; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. and Lottie; infant son, Harold; daughter, Bonnie Abele, brothers, Charles, Jack, Merle and Glenn Vroman as well as by his two infant great-granddaughters, Addison and Ella Egbert.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 2-4 pm at Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio 43615 (419-531-4424). Funeral services will remain private. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science Scholarship Fund, 645 W. North Bend Road, Cincinnati, OH. 45224.
