Obituary for Joseph E. Sexton, Sr.
Grandfather of Richard Michael Williams, Funeral Director and Owner of R.M. Williams Funeral Service
Joseph E. Sexton, Sr., 85, of Wellston and formerly of Marion, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home. He was born March 7, 1938, in Carter County, Kentucky, son of the late Raleigh and Flora (Staggs) Sexton. In a turn of unfortunate events, Flora passed away when Joe was only two years old. He was cared for and raised by his mother, the late Essie Sexton.
Joe was very talented and played the mandolin for many years. He loved bluegrass music, watching the R.F.D. television channel, and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his daughters, Tyonna (Rick) Williams, and Pam Sexton; six grandchildren: Randall Jr. (Courtney) Huffine, Tiffany (Keith) Manring, Misty Huffine, Michael (Mandee) Williams, Shantell Sexton, and Justin Sexton; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers, Wayne (Alice) Sexton and Paul Sexton; sisters, Jan Norman, Juanita (Andy) Graham, and Elinor (Jim) McIntire; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Joe Sexton, Jr.; a daughter, Terri Pierce; a grandson, Dakota Sexton; the mother of his children and friend, Lulabelle Sexton; brothers, Lawrence and Carson Sexton; a sister, Velma Hendrickson; as well as an infant brother, Wade Sexton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, where a funeral service celebrating Joe’s life will follow commencing at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Michael Jadrnicek officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston.
