Summary:
OFDA General Counsel David Ingram will present a review of Ohio's extensive preneed consumer protections such as direct deposit, the preneed recovery fund, confirmation of deposit, portability, and preneed contract disclosures. David will also discuss the interplay of Medicaid regulations and preneed that offer various preplanning and prefunding options for Ohio families. Finally, he will review with attendees the recent preneed law changes and several important modifications to the preneed law.
Objectives:
- How Ohio’s preneed law operates to protect preneed consumers and to provide them peace of mind when prefunding a funeral;
- The options that are available to Medicaid applicants to spend down resources by prefunding their funeral services and pre-purchasing burial space items for immediate family members; and
- Recent legislation impacting preneed law.
