Summary:

Instinctively we come together when death happens. The need to be comforted and the need to offer comfort is part of what it means to be human. In 2020, our traditional ways of coming together were put on pause and the effects have been immensely felt around the globe. As funeral professionals, managing our own health, stress and fear while trying to comfort families we can't physically get close to can be overwhelming at times. But never has there been a time when humans need more authentic and healing connection than right now. Ceremonies, rituals and self-care can help bridge the gap, creating deep and meaningful funeral experiences in this challenging time of distance.

Presenter:

16617 Linda Stuart
Linda Stuart is a Life-Cycle Celebrant specializing in funerals and weddings who creates and performs one-of-a-kind ceremonies for life’s milestone occasions. She has always been a Celebrant at heart, organizing celebrations, designing ceremonies, and reinventing rituals for as long as she can remember. Since childhood, she has also been immersed in the funeral industry through her father’s company where she served as an executive up until 2016. Her longtime connection with the bereaved, coupled with her passion for Celebrancy, led her to found the Toronto Death Café, a space where people gather to discuss death in order to better understand how to make the most of their finite lives. The Death Café concept illuminates Linda’s belief that we as humans can’t come close to understanding the meaning of life if we’re not willing to explore the reality of death. Linda frequently speaks to funeral and cemetery professionals about the importance of personalized memorials and rituals, particularly for families who have lost children. She also serves as chair of The Unforgettables Fund Toronto Chapter, an organization providing financial assistance for the costs of a dignified funeral to families caring for dying children. Recent empty-nesters, Linda lives with her husband and her sweet bichon in Toronto. Learn more about Linda’s Life-Cycle Celebrant ceremony services at her website, www.linda-stuart.ca
