Obituary for Harry Joseph Gilligan, III

Retired Owner/Funeral Director and Brother of Peter Gillian, Sr., Owner, Gilligan Funeral Homes

Harry Joseph Gilligan, III., 73, of Westminster Maryland and formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born January 4, 1953, in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Harry Joseph, Jr., and Mary Jane (Dorger) Gilligan. He was the cherished husband of Karen Gilligan, his wife of 39 years.

Harry earned his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University. He was a dedicated funeral director whose career spanned over 50 years. Harry’s unwavering commitment to serving families with compassion and dignity made a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in Ohio.

Outside of his professional life, Harry enjoyed spending his time tending to his yard and watching sports. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and dogs.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Christopher R. Gilligan and wife Jane and Megan E. Gilligan and husband Chris Kane; grandchildren John and Christopher Gilligan Jr; siblings Ann Snider and husband Kevin, Peter Gilligan Sr. and wife Beth, Tim Gilligan, Brian Gilligan and Brendon Gilligan; also several nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by siblings Michael Gilligan and Mary Pray.

A memorial gathering will be held on August 14th, 2026 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Gilligan Funeral Homes Kenwood (8225 Montgomery Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45236).
