Obituary for Marjorie L. Dunbar

Mother of Richard Dunbar, Former Owner of Richards, Raff and Dunbar Memorial Home

Marjorie L. Dunbar, 89, of Springfield, Ohio, quietly slipped away Tuesday, May 03, 2022.

Marge was born March 17, 1933 in Cedarville, Ohio to Howard and Lucinda (Morris) Kennon. When Marge was a teenager, the Kennon family moved to Springfield. While attending Springfield High School, Marge met Steve Dunbar, and after she graduated in 1952, they married. Together they raised four sons. Nothing was more important to Marge than providing love and support for her family, and that love and support extended to her sons’ friends, as well. Marge had many friends, but her “Card Club” friends are a special group that has endured for over 70 years. Marge was truly blessed.

During her lifetime, Marge was instrumental in the success of her former husband Steve’s award-winning photography business. She also had a career with the Springfield City Schools, first as cashier in the lunchroom at Hayward Junior High School, then with the Board of Education Credit Union, retiring as Manager in 1998. But, the most important part of Marge’s life was her family – her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many nieces and nephews who were the “pep in her step” – she loved them all deeply, fiercely, and was so very proud of all of them. She rarely missed any event that her kids and grandkids were involved in.

Marge was an avid bowler, played racquetball, and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Lucinda; step-mother Rona Kennon; two brothers and sisters-in-law Neil and Doris Kennon, and Gene and Ruth Kennon; sister and brother-in-law Betty Geron Baldwin and Phil Geron, sister Pauline Sewak; step-brother Don Ferrell; and step-sister Betty Haemmerle.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law Mark and Kim Dunbar, Las Cruces, New Mexico; Rick and Anne Guyton Dunbar, David and Penny Dunbar, and Bruce (Sherri Forrest) Dunbar, all of Springfield; grandchildren Dawn Tharp, Aaron Dunbar, Kristin Dunbar, Jenni Dunbar, Tyler Worley, and Eli Worley; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one brother and sister-in-law Bill and Helen Kennon, Englewood, Florida; one sister Catherine Kennon, Springfield; former daughter-in-law Terri Dunbar, Springfield; brother-in-law Ed Baldwin of Rio Grande, Ohio;  and step-sister in-law Joan Ferrell, Springfield.

The family thanks the wonderful staff at Brookdale Buck Creek Assisted Living for the love and care they gave to Marge the last four years.

Visitation for Marge will be held Monday from 6 – 8 pm at Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home.

The funeral service to honor Marge will be held Tuesday at 11:30 am in the Memorial Home with Rev. Bruce Kramer officiating. Burial to follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
