“Microbes and Morticians”
As an embalmer and funeral director just how dangerous is exposure to infectious and contagious diseases? Does embalming really protect public health?
Three areas of awareness will be addressed in this hour long power-point/ lecture seminar: (1) safety for the embalmer – (2) creating and maintaining a safe work environment, and (3) preparation of the deceased to maximize the reduction of pathogenic microbes .
Can bodies dead from CJD be prepared for viewing? What does the Ohio Funeral Director Statute and Rules and Regulations say about health concerns and the funeral home? What is the relationship between the embalmer and the diseases, (a) Polio, AIDS and Legionnaires disease, and (b) CJD, Alzheimer’s Disease, Cancer and Hepatitis “C”? What infectious/contagious diseases most effect the pregnant female embalmer?
This is NOT an OSHA seminar but a demonstration of simple everyday protocols that should be used with each preparation to protect the embalmer and help to maintain a safe preparation room environment from disease causing microorganisms.
