Obituary for Rosemary Hill
Grandmother of Jack Stickle, II, Owner of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral Service
Rosemary Hill, age 87, of Newark, died on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in Newark. She was born in Newark on April 1, 1932 in the family home on Postal Avenue in north Newark. Her parents were Raymond Joseph and Frances Cecelia (Boch) Franks. Anyone who ever knew Rosemary learned immediately that family was always first and foremost in her life: it was a lesson that had been instilled in her by her parents, both through the lives they led and the values they shared.
Rosemary’s life began in the midst of the Great Depression, and as a young girl she watched as her older brothers went to war and her parents coped with the hardships of rationing during World War II. The experience of shared hardships which touched her family and our country during those years remained with her for the rest of her life. After so many years of sacrifice she was always determined to be as generous as she possibly could to her family and to others.
Rosemary was a lifelong parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a 1950 graduate of St. Francis High School. She married Donald D. Hill on August 14, 1954 and the couple celebrated 64 years together at a family gathering last summer. Rosemary and Don raised a family of seven children, and they were blessed with thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Donald D. Hill; six children, Sharon M. and son-in-law, Michael Stickle of Newark; Richard J. “Rick” and daughter-in-law, Melinda Hill of Wooster; Cindy L. and son-in-law, Monte Londot of Utica; Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Hill of Newark; Howard H. and daughter-in-law, Julie of Newark and Charles "Charlie" G. and daughter-in-law, Kellie of Newark; thirteen grandchildren, Jack W. Stickle, II of Newark; Sarah Rose (Brian) Palmer of Dresden; M. Todd (Lori) Londot of Granville; Kate B. (Michael) Maher of Heath; D. Theodore "Ted" (Kaitlin) Londot of Newark; Travis L. Londot of Newark; Janessa Rose Hill of Wooster; Jerrin R. Hill of Columbus; Tamra L. (Cameron) Pappa of Findlay; Emma Gossett of Newark; Jarrett Hill of Newark; Hudson and Coleson Hill, both of Newark; and nine great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Bradie, Bryn and Henry Londot; Ellis, Owen and Isaac Palmer; and Thompson and Lucy Maher.
Also surviving are two siblings, a brother, Charles E. and sister-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Franks of Newark and a sister, Mary Franks-Kelley of Newark; two sisters-in-law, Laura Franks of Mt. Vernon and Carol Franks of Newark; many nieces and nephews and innumerable family friends.
In addition to her parents, Rosemary is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dawn Marie Hill (1969); four brothers, Joseph R. Franks (1986); Joseph’s wife, Mary Eileen (2003); Robert L. Franks and Lawrence R. Franks (2009); George W. (2013) George's wife, Constance "Connie" (1996); and brother-in-law, William W. “Bill” Kelley (2015).
