Obituary for Joseph W. Sauer

Father of Sean Sauer, Funeral Director and Co-owner of Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory

Joseph W. Sauer, 77, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Pickerington, OH, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Woodside Hospice Center in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was born August 30, 1940, to the late Joseph W. and Clara E. (Wippel) Sauer.

A 1958 graduate of Aquinas High School, Joe was raised in Columbus Southend. He worked for Xerox Corporation for many years before moving on to School Book Fairs.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 25 years, Jeanie (Brewster)Yoerger-Sauer; children: Kimberly A. Sauer of Baltimore, OH; Timothy J. Sauer of Stow, OH; Todd P. Sauer of Buckeye Lake, OH; Sean M. (Heather) Sauer of Van Wert, OH; brother, Lawrence Sauer of NC; grandchildren: Carlos Cruz, Julio Cruz, Monica (Graham ) Binder; Erika, Elaina & Elissa Sauer; Sydney Sauer;  Hadley, Holden & Hudson Sauer; great grandson, Arlo Binder; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his siblings: Richard “Dick” Sauer and Carolyn Roach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately, with interment in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or Catholic Charities.
