Obituary for Donald R. Wolfe, Sr.

Retired Funeral Director and Former Owner of Wolfe Nelson Funeral Home

Longtime Sciotoville supporter and former businessman Donald R. Wolfe, Sr., 94, passed away quietly at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Care Center on January 31, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born October 9, 1923 in Jacksonville, FL to Roy and Mildred (Zuefle) Wolfe.  Mr. Wolfe was a World War II Navy Veteran where he proudly served his country. Upon returning home, he attended and graduated from the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science and worked for several firms in the area.  Mr. Wolfe built Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville in 1970 and worked there until his retirement at 82.  He was proud to support many Sciotoville community groups over the years such as Little League, East High School Athletics and Band, and the good work of many Sciotoville area churches. Mr. Wolfe was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was a past financial committee member, a 32nd Degree Mason with Scottish Rites and a 40-year member of the Wheelersburg Ohio Western Sun #91 Masonic Lodge, a member of the Wheelersburg Kiwannis Club, a lifetime member of the Southern Ohio Jaycees, a member of the Sciotoville VFW Post 3638, and a supporter of Shawnee State University and the local arts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Piatt, who was his McDermott High School sweetheart; and his son, Donald R. Wolfe, Jr., both of whom he has missed sorely over the years.  Donald is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (Gib) Carver of Sciotoville, Irma (John) Switalski of Wheelersburg, and Connie (Pat) Hendershott of Wellston Ohio. He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, Patricia (Joseph) Bobinger of Mason Ohio, Daniel (Julie) Hendershott of Albany, Ohio, Steven (Melissa) Hendershot of Wellston, Ohio, Anastacia (Matt) Halter of Akron Ohio, and Dawn (Ryan) Blackwell of Shiloh Illinois. He has 10 special great-grandchildren that survive him. All will carry on his love of life.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on February 5, 2018 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Reverend John Richards officiating.  Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with a committal service at the Edgewood Abbey Mausoleum.
