Obituary for Homer O. "Dutch" Daye

Retired employee of Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home

Homer O. “Dutch” Daye, 95, of Springfield peacefully passed from this life with his son at his side, in his home, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born in Springfield August 26, 1922 the son of William and Thelma (Moore) Daye. Homer was a graduate of Springfield High School and proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Dutch was the Owner and Manager of the S.N. Hiser Co. of Springfield that manufactured infant’s and children’s burial caskets since 1917. Dutch then was a sales representative for Boyertown Casket Co. He also owned and operated Sommers Brothers Co. and DB Coatings, also of Springfield. He retired from Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home, following 18 years as a faithful and valued employee. Homer was a member of Fifth Lutheran Church and attended First Christian Church for 30 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Lodge, #619 F. & A.M., Springfield Chapter R.A.M. where he was Past High Priest and a former Trustee, Springfield Council R.S.M., Past Commander of Palestine Commandry #33 Knights Templar, and Antioch Temple. At the time of his death he was the oldest living Past High Priest and Past Commander in Springfield. Dutch was an avid golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and oldest son, and fishing with all his sons and grandsons. Homer also enjoyed working in his yard with Madeline and took great pride in their gardening. He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Lou (Hiser) Daye in 1979; son and daughter-in-law Philip and Carolyn (Davis) Daye of Gratis, OH; son Douglas Hiser Daye of Atlantic Beach, FL; sister Mary E. McGinnis: and by his loving and faithful companion of 30 years, Madeline Huesman. He is survived by his son Rodger A. Daye of Springfield; two grandsons Jesse Aaron Daye, and Leif Andrew “Andy” (Sarah) Daye, all of Atlantic Beach, Fl; three great grandchildren Nora, Emma and Wyatt Owen Daye of Atlantic Beach; and his only niece Beth McCutcheon of South Vienna. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 – 5 PM. in RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Homer’s life will be Monday at 1:30 PM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Orbie Estep officiating.
