Eastern Star funeral services, celebrating the life of Helen Virginia Kreager Hoskinson, 102, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 East Main St. in Kirkersville.  Graveside services will follow on Thursday, June 8,2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Poplar Forks Cemetery, Gratiot; where she will be laid to rest between her husband and her son.

Helen passed away peacefully Sunday evening, June 4, 2017, in the Morrison Hospice House, Zanesville.   She was born February 14, 1915, in Gratiot, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Mae (Smart) Kreager. She was a graduate of Brownsville H.S., class of 1933; and was a lifelong member of the Gratiot United Methodist Church.

Helen worked for the Bailey Drug Company in Zanesville, prior to working at Leffler’s Drug Store at Sixth and Main in Zanesville for many years, from where she retired in 1986, when the pharmacy closed.

Helen was an active 71 year member of Brownsville Chapter #486, Order of Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron in 1952 and 1977 and as a chapter officer for many years. She made many life-long friendships through her association with Eastern Star.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Beth, Rick, Jim, Ralph, Mark and Susan, great-grandchildren Ryan, C.J., Drew and Cassie; great-great grandson Lane; her sister Trudy (Mrs. John) Kondrath of Broomfield, Colorado, niece Jan (Tim) Kardatzke of Broomfield, Colorado, nephew Gary (Betty) Hoskinson of Newark, and numerous great nieces and nephews; along with dear friends Beverly (Mrs. Tom) Smith of Mt. Sterling , Betty (Mrs. Bernard) Palmer of Gratiot and Gary and Linda Osburn of Zanesville, who were so faithful in their visits to Helen over the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Ike” Hoskinson in 1966, son, Richard J. Hoskinson in 2012, daughter-in-law, Lois Ann Hoskinson in 2008, brother, Harry Kreager in 1987, sister, Evelyn Mason in 2003, brother, Lt. Col. Howard M. Kreager in 2007, and sister Mary Cole in 2013.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Helen believed that no Eastern Star gathering was complete without “well thought out refreshments”. In her honor, we will have a reception at the funeral home following the evening services. All are welcome to stay and celebrate Helen’s remarkable 102 year long life.

Memorials in Helen’s memory may be directed to The Helen Purcell Home, 1854 Norwood Blvd, Zanesville, Ohio 43701

The family wishes to thank the skilled and compassionate care givers at the Helen Purcell home, who have cared for Helen, her sister Mary and her son Richard, during their final illnesses; and for whom the family is so very grateful for their many kindnesses.
