Obituary for Lelia Jane Jones

Mother of Bill Jones, Mother-in-law of Pamela Reber Jones, Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center

Lelia Jane Jones (nee Fitch) passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home in Sun Lakes, Arizona on February 2, 2017.

Born on January 3, 1934 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to Theodore and Mildred Ruth (nee Gieringer) Fitch, Jane was raised by her father and grew up alongside her sister in the Fitch Bros. Funeral Home, a family owned funeral home in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She graduated from Lawrenceburg High School and attended Purdue University.

Despite being perfectly content with her nose in a book or doing a crossword puzzle, to say Jane’s life was lacking excitement would be far from the truth. She devoted many years to working for Phi Beta Psi, but it was Jane’s work as a grandmother that can likely be considered her most rewarding. Swim meets, basketball games, soccer games, band, cheerleading, gymnastics, equestrian competitions, spelling bees, field trips, baseball games and football. It did not matter the activity, nor the particular grandchild for that matter, she would devote herself to becoming the #1 fan in whatever endeavor presented itself.

She very much enjoyed having shared interest with her family. She also loved teaching them to enjoy some of her own interest! From encouraging reading to playing Scrabble of Mahjong, documenting family history to properly decorating a Christmas tree, she was certainly a jack of all traits. She leaves her family with a lifetime of values of which they can strive daily to honor.

Jane is survived by her husband of 63 years, William Jones; daughter, Kimberli (Jeff) Stoneking; sons, David (Amy) Jones, and Bill (Pamela) Jones; 6 grandchildren, Alison (Brandon) Gayler, Andrew (Irina) Stoneking, Katherine (Brendan) Reddy, Rachael Jones, Austin Jones, and Cole Jones; and 4 great-grandchildren, Elliana, Graham, and Polina Stoneking, and Samuel Gayler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mildred Ruth Fitch; and her sister, Ruth Ann Schafer.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Apache Wells Community Church in Mesa, Arizona.
