Obituary for Geraldine "Jerry" Lane

Mother of Joseph Lane, Lane Funeral Homes

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown Chapel for Geraldine "Jerry" Lane, 92 of Mineral Ridge, who passed away Saturday October 15th at Briarfield Manor Care Center. Jerry was born May 11, 1924 in Niles the daughter of James "Doc" and Ruth (Garland) Gilbert. She was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School class of 1942 and attended Westminster College where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron Sorority and the Owens Sophomore Honor Society. She was secretary to the Dean of Men at Wooster College from 1948 to 1949, while her husband Joe O. was attending there. Jerry was the former owner of Lane Lifetrans. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge for over 50 years, where she served as a Deacon and Elder. She was also a member of the Ruth Shrine #64, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Ida McKinley Chapter #229 of the Eastern Star, and Rebekah Lodge #635. She had served on the board of directors for the Austintown Historical Society, and was also a member of the Niles and Mineral Ridge Historical Societies. She was also the former president of the Austintown Kiwaniqueens, a 25-year member of the VFW Auxiliary in Mineral Ridge, a member of the Ohio Child Conservation League Mother's Club and the N.N. Club of Mineral Ridge. Jerry loved to play piano, and gave book reviews for many years. She enjoyed the theater and often spoke of how she loved performing in high school plays. Jerry met Joseph O. Lane when she was 14 years old and always said she knew she would marry him. They were married August 23, 1947 until his death on June 22, 2002. Jerry leaves one son, Joseph D. Lane and his wife Andrea of Canfield, four grandsons, Ryan Lane, Rob Lane and his wife Jenny, Patrick Lane and his wife Natalie, John Delserone, two great grandchildren Jace and Bode, and one sister Carol Roth and her husband Bob of Myrtle Beach, SC. Besides her parents and husband, Jerry was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Newhard and Jean Law. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel where services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
