He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, having served on church council and was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years; he also belonged to the pinochle, bowling and euchre clubs. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing and the outdoors. He loved gardening, particularly roses, which he cultivated over 75 bushes. He also loved traveling.

Don proudly served our country during the Korean conflict. He was in the U.S. 5th Army.

He is survived by his loving family: sons, Alan (Brenda), Mark (Rick) and Matthew; daughters, Laura Calabro and Carol Drayer; grandchildren, Ben, Brooke, Michael (Angela), Jamie, Katie, Frank, Kipp (Sara), Kristy (Jeremy) and David; great–grandchildren, Gabe, Heidi, Emma, Dexter, Aria Grace and Anthony; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Ella Pinnick and Mary Ann Felstow; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Felstow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brother, Kenneth; sister, Doris Szostak; and son Michael.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, from 4-8 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 246 Benjamin Street in Romeo.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in his honor.

The family remains grateful to the compassionate care of the entire staff at Heartland Hospice and the loving daily care of Joyce, Lela and Amanda.
