Notification of Death - Robert B. Anstrom

April 14, 2007

OFDA received word this afternoon that Robert B. Anstrom, 83, died Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2007 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Bob's career in funeral services spanned over 60 years. It began in 1941 when he was in high school and worked part time for Fred W. Weller Funeral Home. He was with Fred for 29 years, eventually becoming manager and later President of the firm. Following Mr. Weller's death, he and Robert D. Gustafson founded the Anstrom-Gustafson Funeral Home in 1970. Later, that firm became Anstrom-Gustafson-Velker when John R. Velker joined them as a partner in 1975. Following Jack's retirement in 1997, the firm became Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home under the direction of Greg and Doug Anstrom. In 1997, Bob was recognized by the Ohio Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service to his community. He was a licensed funeral director for 60 years.

His wife of 44 years, the former June E. Zimmerman, whom he married June 11, 1949, died October 1, 1993. He leaves his sons, Gregory B. (Kathy) and Douglas F. (Noreen); a brother, W.E. "Wib" (Ruth); step-grandchildren, Kim (Jim) Kish, Chris (Liz) Cowher, Shelli Stiles and Jessica Stiles; three step-great-granchildren; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were handled by the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home, with a service held this morning, Wednesday, 18, 2007.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Covenant Church Memorial Fund, 5210 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44512 or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
