Notification of Death - Canda Sue Fickes

OFDA received word this morning that Canda Sue Fickes, 60, of Jeromesville, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Fickes was the wife of member, Don Fickes, Fickes Funeral Home, Jeromesville.

She was born March 16, 1947, in Ashland, the daughter of H. George and Flora (Alexander) Carl and was a 1965 graduate of Hillsdale High School, where she was the first homecoming queen. In 1968, she graduated from Miami of Ohio. She had taught 16 years in the Hillsdale School system and was chosen Teacher of the Year in 1990. She retired due to illness in 1998.

She attended Jeromesville United Methodist Church, Hillsdale Education Association, Ohio Education Association and National Education Association. Teaching and family were her life.

Surviving are her husband, Don Fickes, to whom she was married June 7, 1968; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Heidi Fickes, Ryan and Stacey Fickes, and Mark and Tiffany Fickes; grandchildren, Ashley, Madeline, Payton, Caden, Dylan, Lacey and Jack; her mother, Flora Carl of Ashland; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bradford and Mary Carl; and a sister and brother-in-law, Georganne and Richard Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Carl on Nov. 6, 1998.

Services will be Friday, April 6, at 10:30 AM at Jeromesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Jeromesville Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday, April 5, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM at Fickes Funeral Home, 84 North High Street in Jeromesville.
